The other day, we saw a trailer for The Idea Of You, which is based on the book. It got us thinking about the books we'd love to see turned into movies. Here are some of the many on our list, including rom-coms, historical fiction, fantasy, and a thriller or two.
Even though we're believers that the book is (almost) always better, we still can't resist a good movie adaptation of our favorite reads. What about you? What books would you be most excited to see as a movie?
Magnolia Parks
Who else is obsessed with Magnolia Parks? If you haven't read it already, here's the premise: A London socialite and Britain's most photographed bad-boy are constantly hurting each other... yet everyone knows they're meant to be. There's dysfunction, romance, drama, and incredible characters that we'd LOVE to see represented on screen.
Quote that must be included in the movie: “Painful things can still be beautiful things, in case you didn’t know.”
The Guncle
The Guncle by Steven Rowley (author of the wonderful Lily & The Octopus) is about an uncle who becomes the primary guardian of his niece and nephew after a tragic accident. It’s full of heart, forgiveness, and most of all, feel-good vibes that will very likely make your face hurt from smiling so much. We've heard a movie adaptation is in the works, so hopefully we'll see a trailer for it soon!
“Grief orbits the heart. Some days the circle is greater. Those are the good days. You have room to move and dance and breathe. Some days the circle is tighter. Those are the hard ones.”
Love And Other Words
This heartwarming story is about childhood sweethearts who reconnect after 10 years apart (think: Call Me Maybe). It's irresistibly lovable and the kind of book you'll read in one sitting and recommend to all your book-loving friends -- and we'd happily get tickets to see the movie version in theaters, no questions asked.
Quote that must be included in the movie: “Favorite word?” he whispers. I don’t even hesitate: “You.”
Beach Read
To be honest, we'd be obsessed with a movie adaptation of ANY of Emily Henry's novels - People We Meet On Vacation and Book Lovers are two of our favorite feel-good romance novels of all time. But the one we'd *most* like to see is Beach Read. There are so many reasons we love this book... the love story, the neighbors, the witty banter, the beautiful backdrop of a lake, Gus Everett's impossibly captivating vibe. The list is endless. In the meantime, we'll keep reading her books and making bookmarks inspired by her novels.
Quote that must be included in the movie: “Sometimes life is very hard. Sometimes it demands so much of you that you start losing pieces of yourself as you stretch out to give what the world wants to take.”
Emily of New Moon
We could go on and on about why we love Emily of New Moon. We love a good coming-of-age novel that's a fairytale-meets-historical fiction. The setting is absolutely dreamy and we found the plot so pure and endearing. But what we love most are the heartwarming friendships we think would be infectious on screen.
Quote that must be included in the movie: "Your story is like a wild rose, dear, all sweetness and unexpectedness with sly little thorn soft wit and satire. It has power, delicacy, understanding."
One Dark Window
One Dark Window is one of those books we couldn't stop thinking about after we read it. The ending is a total cliffhanger. The setting is unbelievably amazing... we're talking, dark gothic castles, an enchanting forest, trees, everywhere, and a dreamy fantasy vibe. It would be so (soooooo!) incredible to see it all on screen!
Quote that must be included in the movie: “Be wary. Be clever. Be good.”
Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine
We absolutely adore Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine. It made us laugh, it made us cry, and it made us fall in love with the strange and complex character that is Miss Eleanor Oliphant. This is another one we've heard rumblings online that a movie on the way - and we couldn't be more excited about it!
Quote that must be included in the movie: "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make sound?"
Red Rising
We've seen a few articles about a movie or TV show version of Red Rising -- and all we can say is yes, yes please! This is an incredible fantastically dystopian novel and it's bizarre in a way that's you just have to read. If you do, tell us what you think :)
More Than You'll Ever Know
Calling all fans of true crime! More Than You'll Ever Know is about a true crime blogger who seeks answers to a murder that took place more 30 years ago. However, the more she learns, the more she realizes she questions the truth. It's fascinating a story of obsession, love, and the secrets we hide -- and we think it would make for a gripping movie!
Quote that must be included in the movie: When we’re shocked someone isn’t who we thought they were, it’s usually not because they hid it so well—more like, the closer we are to a person, the less clearly we see them."
